Maria Miller local MP wants all schools to be "good" or "outstanding".
Currently 90% of Basingstoke schools are good or outstanding (up from 52% in 2010) but Maria wants to see 100% of Basingstoke children being given the opportunity of the best education. To help achieve that Aldworth will reopen its doors after the half term break under the leadership of the successful South Farnham Educational Trust, as part of a grouping with Brighton Hill Academy, under the leadership of Chris Edwards.
Maria said, "This is a huge opportunity to realise the true potential of the pupils and staff at the old Aldworth School. Under the umbrella of the South Farnham Educational Trust, with the leadership of Brighton Hill Head Teacher Chris Edwards and reinforcing it's historic roots, the new Bluecoat School is brimming with opportunity and possibilities.
"Chris Edwards and the South Farnham Educational Trust have turned around Brighton Hill School and we need the same for pupils and staff at Aldworth School. Every child in Basingstoke needs the opportunity to attend a good or outstanding school.
"14 years ago only half of Basingstoke schools achieved that standard, now its 90%. But we need to ensure every child gets the opportunity to attend a good or outstanding school. "Every parent wants the best start for their children, education is central to that. That’s why I want the best schools for every child. Now in Basingstoke were really starting to achieve that thanks to the incredible work of teachers and school staff and the leadership of head teachers.''
