25 November 2021 White Ribbon Day marked the start of 16 days of action against domestic abuse, local MP for Basingstoke Maria Miller is reminding residents that help is available for anyone at risk.
White Ribbon UK is the leading charity engaging with men and boys to end violence against women. White Ribbon Day is 25th November when thousands of people take action and raise awareness to prevent violence before it starts. This year’s campaign theme #AllMenCan encourages everyone to promote the message that violence is never acceptable.
Maria said, “A global surge in domestic abuse has been reported during the coronavirus pandemic, violence is never acceptable and services in Hampshire welcome people of any gender or sexuality recognising that anyone can be a victim of domestic abuse.
I urge anyone in Basingstoke who is at risk of abuse or worried about their own behaviour towards someone else to get help.”
The Hampshire Domestic Abuse helpline is on 03300 165 112 and is staffed between 9.30am and 8pm Monday to Friday. Outside of these hours, a voicemail provides alternative numbers to call. Anyone in immediate danger, or who knows someone who is, should call 999 and ask for the Police. In an emergency, if you are unable to speak, dialling 999 and then entering 55 will transfer your call to the relevant police force who will assist you without you having to talk.
