Maria Miller MP convened a meeting between Queen Mary’s College, Basingstoke College of Technology students, and clinicians from Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust, to hear from students about their priorities for Basingstoke’s new Hospital, as part of the recent NHS Public Consultation.
Maria said, “The new Hospital is due to open in 2032 and so the views and opinions of young people in college today couldn't be more important. It will be the Hospital looking after them, throughout their lives.
“Students were able to hear from two leading NHS consultants about how the preferred option of a new hospital at Junction 7 of the M3 has been developed by medical experts and to ask questions not covered in the consultation document, including health care access for people with chronic health conditions and the links between GP surgeries and the new hospital.”
Maria went on to say, "Basingstoke’s new Hospital will make sure we have healthcare facilities fit for our modern needs rather than reflecting the needs of 50 years ago when the hospital was built. This will be the largest healthcare infrastructure investment in Basingstoke’s history, so it is important that all residents, particularly young people, have their say in the public consultation.
“I would like to thank the students for coming along to the event and engaging so positively.”
