Local MP Maria Miller has called on the new Borough Council Leader to confirm he will not delay the new Local Plan which is due to go to Public Consultation in September.
Maria said, "When Basingstoke Council was last led by a coalition it caused indecision, delay and confusion because the Councillors involved couldn't agree between themselves what they wanted to do. As a result, residents suffered from a lack of investment in school places and increased road congestion. This cannot happen again.
She went on to say,
"Important changes to the reforms of the local plan process have been secured by MPs including axing house building targets which were long favoured by Labour and caused real problems for our Borough. We have been successful in strengthening the 'Special Circumstances' that can be taken into account in places like Basingstoke where we have built double the number of new homes as the rest of the country for more than 5 decades. These important changes must be honoured by the new Borough Council administration."
