In the Spring budget the government announced an investment of £289m for a national wraparound programme.
Maria said,
‘’Around 36% of parents of primary school children already use some form of wraparound childcare. These services are crucial for parents with work commitments and also for parents who are seeking to return to work after having children.
Wraparound care is a brilliant support delivered by experienced professionals, however, we know that not everyone currently has access to these services. That is why the government’s ambition to build upon existing services to support all families to access wraparound childcare from 8 am-6 pm is so important. This new arrangement will be financed by an investment of almost £300m and will begin to be rolled out in September 2024.
Hampshire County Council will be responsible for delivering the expansion in provision in Basingstoke and the Department for Education has recently published a handbook to help support them in doing so.’’
